Montana Tech Plastic Primer Spray seals plastic surfaces and prepares them for the following color coatings. You can use it to increase the adhesion, intensity and durability of the paints and varnishes used, as well as to reduce the risk of cracks forming.
You can use the primer on:
- Ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM)
- acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)
- glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP)
- rigid PVC
- Polyurethane (PUR plastic, resin)
- polystyrene (PS plastic)
- polyamide (PA)
Excluded is high density polyethylene (HDPE). Due to the very different chemical composition of plastics, a preliminary test on a non-visible area is recommended in any case.
Before applying the primer, make sure that the surface is clean and dry and free of dust and grease. Apply the tech spray in several thin coats with a spray distance of 25 cm. Wait a few minutes between coats, but not so long that the previous coat is already dry. The optimum application temperature is between 10 and 25 °C. The humidity should not exceed 60%.
Depending on the environment and how many primer coats you have applied, you can recoat your plastic with synthetic, nitro-combination and acrylic paints after 3 to 24 hours. Again, it is advisable to do a test on a non-visible area beforehand.
Good to know: Try to protect your project from large temperature fluctuations, as plastics can expand and contract in hot and cold conditions.
