(The "Pomegranate" and "Birch" packs also contain iron wool for the production of the color developer iron moderate. Chemical reactions can be used to develop many different colors and nuances. Since nature cannot produce white and black, you use it, for example, for the reaction of acetates and dyes. If iron wool is boiled in vinegar with the addition of water, this type of color developer is produced. The color of the pomegranate can be developed from a reddish shimmering yellow to anthracite-black. When colored with birch, a deep olive green evolves.)
Myboshi favorite colors - how it works
Make Stain & pickle
With the lid on, bring 2 liters of water to a boil with the entire unit of alum salt. When the solution boils, remove it from the stove and add the wool or fabric. After 15 minutes, put the pot back on the stove and let everything simmer on the lowest level for 45 minutes.
Make dye liquor
Bring 2 liters of water to a boil in another saucepan. When the water is boiling, remove the pot from the stove and pour in the entire content of the Myboshi favorite colors and stir well. With the lid closed, let the dye plant soak for 15 minutes, then put the pot back on the stove and let the contents simmer for 45 minutes on the lowest setting.
Dye
First pour the dye liquor through a fine sieve into another saucepan and (if desired) keep the dye in a bowl. It's good for at least one more hit.
Take the wool or the textile out of the stain, wash it out well, wring it out thoroughly and put the wool or the textile into the sieved dye liquor. Now dye the wool or the textile with the liquor on the stove at the lowest level for at least one hour.
Caution: do not boil! Just keep the water warm (approx. 40-70 degrees Celsius)!
Setting
Pour 100 ml of vinegar into the pot with the dye liquor and the wool or textile, stir well and remove the pot from the stove. Leave everything to rest for about 30 minutes with the lid closed so that the color is set.
Wash out
Finally, you free the wool or the textile from the dye and the vinegar. For this you have to wash the wool or the textile thoroughly with lukewarm water and wash it out. Now you can let everything dry - done!
Myboshi favorite colors - explanations, tips & tricks
The stain
The alum salt solution allows the color to penetrate the wool or textile. The fibers are opened and take on the color completely.
The Dyer's Fleet
A somewhat clumsy name, but the core. The finished mixture of dye plant and water is called dye liquor. Especially nice with Myboshi's favorite colors: All fleets are suitable for several trains. So don't throw away the liquor right away after you've dyed it for the first time!
The water
Dying with natural substances also means: The color result depends on many factors and is never the same. The water plays a special role here: lime content, minerals or dirt have an influence on the color result. Rainwater and tap water are best suited.
Setting
The fiber that has been opened with mordant is also closed again after dyeing. Household vinegar is used for this. With this step, the color not only stays rich and strong for longer, but the wool or the textile is also washable (in the machine).
The time
The longer the wool or textile is dyed, the better the color particles adhere to the fibres. It is best to leave the wool in the dye liquor overnight. The stove does not have to run through.
