This Bio-glitter consists of polyactides (PLA), colloquially known as polylactic acids, and is a bio-based industrial plastic. No mica is used in the bio-glitter. PLA belongs to the category of synthetic polymers, as the material is produced artificially in the laboratory. Unlike conventional plastic, it is made from renewable raw materials. PLA consists of corn starch and lactic acid. The molecular structure of PLA is biodegradable and compostable, although not in household compost, but in industrial composting plants. PLA is also used for plastic bags, drinking cups, cutlery and straws, among other things, and has a heat resistance of 60 - 80°.
