Satin acrylic is a material for light. With its noble, fine-matte surface, the acrylic is opaque, but translucent. It also has a substantially low reflectance, so that in a lamp design by far the largest part of the light penetrates to the outside.
Under the brand name "PLEXIGLAS® Satinice", the Röhm company (formerly Evonik) has launched a series of cast acrylic glasses that are particularly distinguished by their silky-matt, satin surfaces. The material is offered in 2 different surface combinations: PLEXIGLAS® Satinice glossy/satin (SC) and PLEXIGLAS® Satinice satin on both sides (DC). The matte surfaces are scratch-resistant, and fingerprints cannot be seen on them.
With its matte surface, PLEXIGLAS® Satinice brand acrylic glass is suitable for many design applications. It is used in trade show or furniture construction (e.g. cabinet doors), for partition walls or displays, in illuminated advertising or in the production of light objects. When manufacturing luminaires, care must be taken to ensure that it is not just the distance from the light source that is important, but also the ventilation of the luminaire. This is achieved by ensuring that the warm air can escape upwards.
The matte surfaces of PLEXIGLAS® Satinice SC and DC are fully retained during thermoforming. In addition, the material can be excellently sawn, drilled, milled, lasered and bonded like normal acrylic GS.
