made from neodymium, iron and boron (NdFeB), glossy, extremely powerful holding force (10 to 15 times stronger than a normal ferrite magnet of the same size), the direction of magnetisation is axial (through the height), operating temperature is 80 °C, N 42; attention: the designation "N" does not refer to adherence strength (see Information about Neodymium Magnets)!

The two magnets that make up this set are not visibly different from one another: two ring-shaped magnets with drilled holes and counterbores that allow them to be screw mounted on practically any kind of surface. They are, however, differentiated by their polarity, one having north pole magnetization, the other with south pole magnetization when seen from the countebored side. This results in the two open screw-head sides being attracted to one another instead of being repelled, as would be the case with magnets having the same polarity.

The opposing polarity of these magnets allows them to be used in combination as a fastener for boxes and closets – which is why they are sold as a set. Care should be taken when screwing in the mounting screws because neodymium magnets are rather brittle with a tendency to cracking and breaking up: The screw should be tightened slowly with a minimum of force and, if necessary, elastic washers should be used.

On one side of the magnet the inner diameter of the center hole is 8 mm (keep in mind the size of the countersunk screw head!). The counterbore tapers the through-bore down to 4.2 mm.

Note

Neodymium magnets are extremely powerful. Crushing and bruising injuries can occur when handling these magnets, especially the larger ones. When two magnets collide together, small pieces can be broken off and cause injury. For these reasons the magnets should be handled carefully and they should definitely not be allowed to crash into one another from a distance. Magnets should never land in children’s hands because swallowing them can lead to serious medical problems.

Particularly the larger neodymium magnets should never be stored or used near devices or objects that can be damaged by magnetism. This can include, among others, televisions and monitors, credit cards, bankcards, computers, data storage devices of all kinds, video and music cassettes, mechanical clocks and speakers. A large magnet can also disturb heart pacemakers. When in doubt you should exercise caution!
