Mixing color yourself – well, that sounds like a project for real artists. Just like the old masters of yesteryear. Because this premium artist pigment bears the seal "100% pigment," color quality doesn't have to be spoiled by self-mixing. Quite the opposite. Properly processed with high-quality binders, the Schmincke artist pigments are a guarantee for maximum brilliance, color intensity, and yield.
Speaking of binders – depending on which you use, artist pigments are suitable for rubbing oil paints, acrylic paints, watercolors, gouache paints, linoleum paints, casein paints, and egg tempera paint.
You can choose from a color spectrum of more than 40 traditional pigments. Among them are also six fluorescent tones - for notable effects in UVA (black) light. Incidentally, we also have other unique color pigments from the same range in our assortment.
Fancy mixing your own colors? Here's a small guide:
- You'll need: pigment, binder, a grating support plate of roughened glass, a glass runner, and a pigment spatula or knife.
- Start with a teaspoon-sized amount of artist pigment in the middle of the grating plate.
- With constant mixing with a paint knife, add as much of the respective binder as necessary so that a smooth color paste is formed.
- Subsequently, the actual rubbing of the stains is done by circular movements with the runner.
Attention: The binder requirement varies depending on the pigment used! You'll recognize the correct ratio of pigment to binder when the dried paint has a smooth surface and doesn't rub off when rubbed with the dry palm.
