The easiest way to explain the Sennelier Oil Sticks is "oil paint as a stick". You can use them to apply the oil paint directly without a brush or painting knife. The paint can be applied up to a thickness of one millimeter in a single operation. The substrates are the same as for painting with oil paint: linen, cotton, painting boards, primed boards, oil painting paper. You should make sure that the surface is well prepared (primed). Before painting with the oil sticks, you must remove the skin from the stick, which always forms anew when the oil stick is not used for a few days. The paint dries within 2 to 4 days, depending on the application thickness, painting surface and weather conditions. For long-lasting durability, you should apply a final varnish after six months, as with conventional oil paints.
