The further development of the SILHOUETTE CAMEO 5 has a number of new features. With the intelligent path technology, you can now cut even more precisely and in multiple layers. In addition, there are now a number of power tools available (as accessories) with which you can engrave, punch or emboss and even hot transfer printing is possible with an extra tool. Also available as an extra is an electrostatic cutting mat, which can be used to process not only very small but also very thin materials. In addition, there is now a repeat button on the device that allows you to restart the last print job at the touch of a button. As part of the revision of the device, the engineers have also looked at the drive and improved it not only in terms of precision but also in terms of noise. Even prolonged use is now less of a strain on the ears and nerves. The plotter has therefore been improved in many areas compared to its predecessor, the Cameo 4.
Proven qualities have been retained. The high cutting force (5 kg contact pressure) and the passage height of 3 mm make it possible to process thicker and firmer materials such as gray cardboard and stronger plastic films, balsa wood, foam rubber or thick leather and felt with the help of the force gauge (accessory). And with the roller blade (accessory) you can also cut fabrics cleanly and without distortion.
Cameo 5 automatically recognizes the tool and adapters used. This saves you time and avoids errors, as you no longer have to manually feed the software with the information. Attach the roll holder as required. Then you can plot meters of adhesive film and finally cut the material to length cleanly with the integrated cross cutter.
Compared to the previous model, the maximum cutting speed has been increased by a factor of three. This means you can now achieve results very quickly, even if you have a lot to cut.
Before cutting, the automatic blade automatically adopts the value that you have previously set in the Silhouette Studio software. With the two tool heads in the plotter, you can, for example, cut and draw in one operation without having to change tools (pen or knife).
Print&Cut technology: The Cameo cutting plotter has a built-in optical sensor to read registration marks. You can create these registration marks in the Silhouette Studio and then print them out. The optical sensor finds the registration marks on your printed motif and the SILHOUETTE CAMEO cuts out the contours razor-sharp. This is useful, for example, if you want to create individual stickers, labels or textile transfer designs.
The PixScan technology allows you to use a camera or scanner to cut precisely around a printed design or to place the desired cutting lines on the material. Your smartphone or tablet is also ideal for this. The PixScan algorithm enables the SILHOUETTE CAMEO 4 to recognize specially placed registration marks on the PixScan cutting mat. The technology is ideal for saving scanned or photographed motifs in your personal digital library or for converting a hand sketch into a new, user-defined cutting file.
The included Silhouette Studio software is the strongest and most powerful design software for hobby cutting systems on the market, offering you features normally only found in high-end design software. Silhouette Studio offers a range of functions for entering text, drawing shapes, importing images and creating outlines, which of course cannot be compared with the possibilities of professional programs such as Illustrator or Corel Draw. You have the following options to expand your possibilities: Firstly, the Silhouette Studio software can be upgraded to a "Designer", "Designer plus" or "Business Edition" - separate upgrades are available for this. Secondly, you can install a plug-in for Windows that enables the cutting plotter to be controlled directly from the Illustrator and Corel Draw programs.
The SILHOUETTE CAMEO 5 can draw paths, cut out precisely and perforate. You can also combine these work steps so that a finished cut-out shape can contain drawn, perforated and cut elements. This results in a wide range of applications in the fields of handicrafts, model making, packaging design and prototyping. For example, you can create
Stencils, foil lettering, windowed facades in architectural model making, silhouette figures made of cardboard, templates for textile transfer (flocking), ready-made craft sheets (templates, especially for crafting with children, available in the Silhouette Design Store), appliqués made of fabric, wall tattoos and much more.
The following materials can be processed well with the Cameo 5: Paper, photo cardboard, gray cardboard, plastic film, iron-on film, vinyl adhesive film, veneer (e.g. our Decoflex), fabrics, leather, foam rubber, felt.
Please note that materials without backing material or smaller pieces of material that are not caught by the roller transport must be applied to the cutting carpet pad with the slightly adhesive surface (be sure to carry out preliminary tests with thin, sensitive materials!) The electrostatic cutting mat (accessory) is of course also helpful in such cases. This is not necessary for materials with a backing, such as self-adhesive films. The cutting mat will wear out over time and you should replace it after a certain period of time.
