The advantage of this hook as compared to the steel bungee cord hook is that no compression clamps and no pliers are required for attaching it to the cord. The closure sleeve is removed from the hook, the cord threaded through it and the end of the cord then pushed into the hook terminal. There is a barb that serves to hold the cord in place. One disadvantage with this system, however, is that it is less capable of supporting tensile loads than the steel alternative and that this plastic version also has less margin for error in terms of the diameter of the cord. It is, though, by way of compensation, also possible to add this hook to two separate thinner cords, but when attempting that job it should be noted that the two cord ends must be attached to one another by making a knot or winding a wire around them (requires a certain amount of finesse) because two loose ends cannot be held in place by the one barb (hooked tip that doesn’t allow the cord to go back out of the orifice).
