The Styrocut is the proven standard machine for the architect's office because of its versatility and high-quality workmanship. With its large working range, the Styrocut 3 is suitable for many scales, mass models, terrain models or prototypes. The wire can be changed quickly and conveniently thanks to the clamping screw on the side, and all other adjustments can also be made without tools. A particularly practical detail of the Styrocut saw is a spring in the aluminum handle that ensures wire tension during cutting, even when the wire expands due to heat. With the Thermocut, the company Proxxon has on offer a hot wire cutter that fulfills all the requirements for simple architectural model making.

The Proxxon circular table saw FET is great for making precise, straight cuts in wood, NF metals, plastic, rubber, cardboard and many other types of material. Even the smallest of workpieces can be cut to shape without any further reworking. The precisely adjustable and sturdy longitudinal stop is the source of many decisively advantageous features: after a rough setting, measurements can be finely adjusted to an accuracy of less than one-tenth mm. There is a vacuum connector provided in the housing where a vacuum cleaner can be attached to insure clean working conditions.

Because the motor is encased for security reasons, it can tend to overheat when run for a long time. This means that you should give it a rest every once in a while! This circular saw does have an electronic safety fuse to protect it against capacity overload. If the material is too hard or the workpiece becomes jammed, the amount of electricity will be reduced to a minimum by the electronic safety fuse. Only when the blade can again turn freely will the motor return to normal speed.

A fret saw – the name comes from the word „fretwork“ (interlaced decorative design) and ultimately from the French word „freter“ (lattice) – is used for intricate cutting work on thin solid wood pieces as well as plywood (up to about 6 mm) or, alternatively, on thin metal sheet or plastic sheet. It can, of course, cut in a straight line but is also capable of cutting curves. This compact set contains all the tools and accessories necessary for fret saw type jobs (intricate cuts), making it an inexpensive group of tools enabling beginners to enter into such an enterprise.

The PUK 3100 metal hacksaw is a robust hand tool that is ideal for precise cuts in metal, wood and plastic. The saw frame is made of powder-coated solid metal in accordance with DIN 6473 and is equipped with an ergonomic beech wood handle for comfortable handling. With an overall length of 520 mm (including handle) and a blade length of 300 mm, the saw offers sufficient reach for various applications. The supplied bi-metal saw blade with 24 teeth per inch can be rotated by up to 90°, allowing flexible cuts at different angles. Captive pins ensure that the saw blade is securely fastened. Japanese saws not only look completely different but they function differently as well: they cut on the "pull" stroke as opposed to the "push" stroke found in Western saws. Advantages for today’s woodworker: a blade made from thinner material and the pull stroke keeps the blade under “tension,” resulting in a thinner, straighter kerf. That thinner blade and the particularly efficient teeth also mean that less strength is required when sawing and this makes it easier to control the cutting action than commonly used saws.

Blades with trapezoidal teeth are primarily intended for making cuts against the grain.  The reciprocally ground teeth (alternating sides) separate the wood fibres in a razor thin cut and thereby do not damage the surface.

The fine-toothed saw blades (16 teeth per inch) are primarily designed for cutting plasterboard, plastic tubes, plywood, bambus or branches. The coarse-toothed saw blades (7 teeth per inch) are best for cutting through square timber or also wet wood.

The reversible handle of the Stanley dovetail saw enables you to make right-aligned as well as left-aligned cuts; it also provides improved access in close quarters. The spring-loaded pin allows the handle to be moved to the left or right side of the blade quickly. The blade is capable of cutting many different materials like, for example, wood, aluminium or plastic.

At first glance, the DISPA paper panel looks like double corrugated cardboard. Unlike classic corrugated cardboard, however, DISPA is rigid in any load direction – similar to honeycomb cardboard, only thinner. However, an internal honeycomb structure is not responsible for this, but an innovative core of several, specially embossed paper layers.

The 3.8 mm thick display panel made of 100% FSC-certified paper can also keep up with traditional layered panels with plastic core such as Kapa or Foamboard, even if it is not quite so pressure-resistant:

• excellent flatness – even under challenging conditions
• good dimensional stability and rigidity with low weight
• smooth surface – core structure is not visible
• can be printed on both sides with direct printing
• suitable for laminating
• easy to handle and hang up

In contrast to Kapa or Foamboard, DISPA can score points by being completely made of paper (100% sustainable FSC-certified forestry) and can, therefore, be sorted and 100% recycled!

Working with DISPA

Cutting/punching: You can cut DISPA not only with a cutter and saw, but also punch with a hollow punch without the edges being pressed in. Patterns and unusual shapes can be realized with a CNC cutter.

Laminating: You can use, for example, double-sided X-film, spray glue, or all-purpose glue for mounting photos, plans, or posters. Since DISPA consists entirely of paper, the result (whether and how strong the panel sticks) depends on the type and amount of adhesive used. Lining or laminating on the back is, as always, recommended.

Printing: Excellent print results on the bright white, smooth surface can be achieved with digital and screen printing on flatbed printers.

Folding: To fold DISPA, it's best to cut a V-shaped groove along the desired fold line and leave the bottom cover.

DISPA in action

DISPA, with all its features and processing capabilities in the professional field, is an environmentally friendly backing panel for short-term promotions and visual communication. Free-hanging ceiling signs and displays are made from digitally customized shapes, just like folded displays, cardboard mates, punched puzzles, or three-dimensionally assembled decorations.

Of course, we can think of even more:

Use DISPA as a non-plastic alternative for mounting photos, plans, or posters; build your working models or prototypes from the easy-to-handle panel; or, use them as a rigid baseplate for your architectural models. You can create extremely sturdy packaging or build temporary displays and moderation walls.

Unique, patented core

The unusual core structure of DISPA is the result of extensive analyses and tests with different embossing profiles. And the innovative and patented manufacturing process creates a pure paper panel, which is not only very stable but also surprisingly insensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations. Therefore, DISPA lies completely flat, even under challenging conditions.

Our conclusion

Especially with short-term inserts, which produce a lot of unrecyclable waste with classic composite panels made of several materials, you can contribute to more sustainability by using DISPA.

No matter whether you work with metal, wood or other materials: The workshop angle is used for marking, scribing and checking right angles. With the help of the light-slit method, you can also use it to check the flatness of a surface.

Both the flat version and the one with a stop are made of ground and galvanized steel. The robust material allows you to use the angle for a long time.

If you hold this Stanley measuring tape in your hand you can actually feel the quality it embodies – a characteristic that should also be expected in the case of a tool that has undergone the riggers of continuous use. The tape is made of a steel strip that is coated with synthetic resin and has the resulting advantage of a long service life. The 3 metre tape can be pulled out to about 50 cm before it kinks; the 5 metre tape can extend as far as about 1.5 metre before kinking; the strong 10 metre tape stays straight for at least 2 metres and probably more.

The end hook moves to allow accurate inside and outside measurements (in the case of the 10 m tape the hook has three rivets and a spring mounted limit stop). This tape measure can be hung on a belt by means of a clip on the back and the blade lock holds the tape in place without any resulting wear and tear.

The Jimihome tape measure is well thought out in its details and high quality workmanship. The white steel tape measure is printed with a black, easy-to-read scale and nylon coated. This makes it corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant. In addition, the coating prevents you from cutting yourself on the tape measure. With the tape measure exact inside and outside measurements are possible. For inside measurements, press the tape lightly against the starting point of the measurement. For outside measurements, hook the tape measure with the small metal angle at the end and pull the tape a little. The metal angle is intentionally flexible with the tape to compensate for or include the material thickness of the small angle in each measurement.

The housing is made of the resistant, non-stick TPE. It therefore survives many a fall undamaged and stays clean quite effortlessly. You'll find the two retraction brakes on the housing. With one brake on the bottom of the housing, you slow down the feeding speed of the tape by pressing and holding it. The other brake above the feed locks the tape at the desired length. The Jimihome tape measure is also equipped with a clip to hang in your pocket or belt and with a wrist loop, with which you can dangle the tape around your wrist or hang it on the wall.

Two in one: This table pad doubles as a cutting mat. The unprinted side is ideal as a table pad. You can write on it very well without any printing showing through the paper, no matter how thin. A computer mouse also works well across the surface, and your table remains as good as new. If you need a cutting mat, it is best to turn the table pad over. The unprinted side remains undamaged and writing on it continues to work perfectly. The printed grid will help you to cut with precision and at right angles. The self-healing surface closes itself after the cut with a cutter or scalpel, so that you can use the mat for a long time.

The following applies to cutting mats in general: it is better to store them lying down than standing, never roll them, do not expose them to moisture and do not expose them to direct sunlight for long periods of time. Otherwise, all of the above will lead to ripples and you will no longer be able to make precise cuts on a wavy cutting mat.

The XXL Pro cutting mat not only offers you a large work surface for your work with cutter and blade: The 3 mm thick design, consisting of 5 differently hard layers, also convinces with a self-healing surface. The top layer of the mat is particularly soft and elastic, so that cut lines close again as soon as you pull the blade out of the cut. This means that the next cut will be as precise as you planned. The practical grid and the centimeter graduation provide you with good orientation if required. Alternatively, you can also use the unprinted side of the cutting mat.

Important: In order to enjoy the cutting mat for as long as possible, we recommend that you store it flat and protected from direct sunlight and heat.

This cutting mat will serve you well for all types of work with a cutter or scalpel. The surface is self-healing. All superficial cuts close immediately and leave no "marks" that you accidentally fall into with the blade when you make the next cut. The next cut is therefore not disrupted and can be executed just as precisely.

The mat is gray on one side and blue on one side. You can choose the color for yourself according to your preferences and surroundings, the color does not represent a distinction in terms of quality. Both sides have a rough surface to prevent the workpiece from slipping on the mat (and the mat on the subsurface) as much as possible. Cutting is made easier for you by the high-contrast and therefore clearly visible white imprint. The printed grid shows millimeter and centimeter steps that are easy to read.

Otherwise, all of the above will lead to ripples and you will no longer be able to make precise cuts on a wavy cutting mat.

Pink or purple? Quite clearly: both! You can use the Hobby Line cutting mat in one color or the other, depending on your mood. Both sides have a rough anti-slip finish. So your workpieces remain reliably in place and the mat lies safely on your work surface.

Since the surface of the three-layer design is self-healing, superficial cuts close immediately. The blade of your knife is not distracted by traces of previous work and you can make the next cut just as precisely as the previous one. The high-contrast grids with practical centimeter divisions provide you with good orientation. They are printed on both sides of the cutting mat.

Practical tip: To ensure that the colorful cutting mat keeps its shape and does not curl, we recommend that you store it lying down and not rolled up. Furthermore, it is advisable not to expose it to moisture or direct sunlight for a longer period of time.

Ponal express is the quick setting version of the normal Ponal. This glue works just as well in the same areas of use, should not be worked with at temperatures under 7 °C and should be stored in a cool place that will not freeze. The Ponal express bottles can likewise be lain on their side by employing the bulge in the bottle supplied for that purpose.

It has been our experience that Ponal express can likewise be washed out of most textiles using normal detergent at 40 °C.

The conclusion expressed by one of our staff members at Modulor – a trained woman bookbinder – after making a test run with this bookbinding glue was: “It does exactly what it´s supposed to do”. In other words, it has a variety of uses and reliably creates the bonds you need for bookbinding work.

It is a dispersion glue that contains a plasticizer and becomes a colourless, transparent, resilient elastic film of glue when cured. The film is moisture-proof, resists yellowing and is aging-resistant. On the one hand, it can be used for glue bonds with or without gauze when making a book block and the like, or, on the other, for flat glue bonds on paper, cardboard and paperboard. When gluing plastic or paper that is coated with varnish or silicone you should switch to our Planatol AD94/5 glue.

The glue can be thinned up to 10% with water or moistened paste in order to increase its spreadability so it can be used for larger surface areas. In this case the paste alternative is better than water because the gluing strength of the mixture is thereby not decreased. Acrylic colours can be added to the glue if coloured bonds are needed, or you can add luminescent pigments – then the book spine or, alternatively, the notepad will glow in the dark!

Regarding aging-resistance: we cannot really certify this attribute because our glue was not put through the expensive testing necessary for certification but is indeed based on a synthetic resin, which on its own is acid-free and aging resistant, so our assumptions are not without basis.
