MDF boards - for table and wall

MDF boards are the magic material for interior fittings. The mechanically pressed wood fibre boards have no deformations and provide a sanded surface with a precise finish. From wall panelling to shelving, MDF can therefore do almost anything.

"MDF" stands for medium density fibreboard. The boards are pressed from wood fibres under high pressure. The light colour of the boards is due to the softwoods used. To produce a 16mm MDF board, you need a pile of wood fibres almost a metre high. This so-called fibre cake is mixed with glue and pressed.

The densely pressed MDF fibreboards are not only extremely robust, they also weigh quite a bit. A 1 square metre, 16 mm thick MDF panel with primer film weighs around 11.6 kg. A 19 mm board of the same size weighs 13.8 kg. At the same time, the solid MDF board is also particularly resistant to bending. Compared to chipboard, it can withstand almost twice as much.

And thanks to precisely these properties, MDF is ideal for furniture construction and interior design. Whether as partition walls, wall panelling, for the construction of side tables, shelves, drawer elements, organisation systems, loudspeaker boxes or as a stable back panel for picture frames, MDF boards are stable and inexpensive.

Colour of your choice, cut to measure

Wood material is (naturally) always brown. But Modulor's MDF boards can do even more. In addition to brown MDF wood, we also offer through-dyed MDF boards in various colours. These are created by colouring the brown wood fibres before pressing. This means that cut edges and finished surfaces always shine in the desired colour. This makes them the ideal building material for furniture or exhibition stand construction.

We also offer MDF furniture panels with a modular size of 36 cm x 36 cm 2 mm bevelled edge for precisely this purpose. In combination with the Playwood connectors, these panels can be used to assemble shelves, tables and various exhibition structures in the colours of your choice in no time at all.

Modulor also does the cutting for you. All MDF boards can be cut to your desired size. With the exception of the very thin MDF boards, we manufacture your MDF board to measure. You can find out more about the cutting process, the minimum dimensions and instant cutting in the Modulor shop on the cutting service page.

Our medium-density fibreboards can be used to build more than just furniture and interior fittings. In model making, entire models or at least parts of them can be constructed or clad with thin, thick, brown, white, black and mouldable MDF boards. In particular, our thin MDF boards from one millimetre thick are used very frequently in model making. They are easy to laser cut and can be cut with a cutter. The edges can simply be sanded with sandpaper.

MDF is processed using the usual machines and tools suitable for solid wood. In addition to wood and metal drills, circular table saws and scroll saws are suitable for processing. MDF boards can also be easily milled. For all machining processes, we recommend the use of less abrasive, carbide-tipped tools due to the high density of the boards.
